The Good Side of Sleep Apnea?
I read a really interesting article today that said snoring actually burns calories. Now I am not making light or suggesting for a second that you should abandon your chosen sleep apnea cures, but it is fascinating to see that a condition linked to heart disease and other dangerous effects can have such a surprising benefit. It was the University of California San Francisco researchers who made this discovery when they studied adults (more than 200) who suffered from this disorder. They burned almost 400 calories more than those who slept uninterrupted. Those who had the most disturbed sleep burned the most. As an OSA sufferer myself, I know that this benefit, however slight, is more than overwhelmed, by my decreased energy during the day and consequently less physical activity.
